Hip pathologies and treatments

ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON
PATHOLOGIES

Pain, stiffness, snapping, mobility loss or blockages can alter daily life, cause lameness, restrict walking and even cause loss of autonomy.

A high number of conditions can affect the hip of both young and elderly people. The hip specialist provides an accurate diagnosis and explains the causes of your pain. He offers the adequate treatment based on your pains, health condition and expectations.

  • Overuse pathology (often due to the patient’s profession or sports activities)

  • Osteoarthritis, arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis

  • Aseptic necrosis of the femoral head

  • Hip impingement, dysplasia, accident consequences

  • Previous prosthesis failure

TREATMENTS

Modern medical treatments are becoming more and more effective for an increasing number of pathologies and situations that were formerly without solutions. In many cases, a conservative treatment will suffice. In other cases, a surgical procedure is unavoidable. The aim is always to regain everyday comfort. Some people have to get their autonomy back, others wish to get back to their previous sports level.

  • Conservative treatments :

    • Physical therapy, optimizing sports and professional conditions, injections, drugs, etc.
    • For the medical treatment of certain diseases, Dr Potaznik will refer you to a colleague specialising in rheumatology, physical medicine or sports medicine.
  • Surgical treatments :

    • Hip arthroscopy : hip impingement, labrum tear…
    • Osteotomy : dysplasia, strengthening of a bad position fracture…
    • Total hip prosthesis : minimally invasive surgery for faster recovery (see more information)
    • Previous prosthesis replacement
